the twilight saga: when i'm wrong, i say i'm wrong.

i was positive i wouldn't get involved with the twilight craze. why would i? vampires and squealing teenagers....umm, i'll pass. so ignore the hype i did. for months and months i laughed at all the attention this silly story was getting. i turned my nose up at the movie(s) and its stars (really, we're going to talk about the 'kiss' for weeks after the awards show?). i sighed when my favorite weekly magazines (i heart usweekly and ok) featured something twilight on the cover (again). everyone had lost their mind, i'd decided, but i was going to keep on reading quality books. you know, because i had taste.

so i'm not sure what possessed me.

"look, twilight is on sale," joked my bf recently as we perused the aisles of things we didn't need in a discount store. i had a beach vacation coming up and nothing sufficiently mindless lined up to read on the trip. for some reason, i still don't know why, i decided right then that twilight would be my vacation book. i'd spent months talking smack about these books but i changed my mind. just like that.

and so it started.

it took me about ten minutes to realize i was in trouble. twilight was going to be one of those books. you know, the one you're up until all hours reading while willing your eyes to stay open for just one more chapter. all of a sudden, i was a member of team twilight. why hadn't i bought the rest of the saga?, i wondered. remember i said it was a vacation book; so there i was, in a spanish speaking country (i heart panama) with only one of four twilight series books. i'm in trouble, i realized. and i was. thank goodness twilight is a thick book, so it took several days, but i turned the last page long before it was time to go home. this was going to be a lesson in patience.

fast forward a week or so. vacation is over. only good thing about that is i'll be returning to the country and therefore able to buy the next book in the series, new moon. luck was on my side. a bookstore in the houston airport was selling it. phew...now i had some quality reading for my next flight. funny how things change.

it's taken a few weeks but i'm now about half way through the fourth and final book in the twilight saga, breaking dawn. i'm still hooked on this love story. who knew i'd be so into a tale about a bunch of teenage vampires and werewolves. certainly not me. in fact, i was certain i wouldn't be. and when i'm wrong, i say i'm wrong.

i'm still not planning on watching the twilight saga movies, though. i don't think..

  1. first off.. im so glad you loved it!
Reading and falling in love with a fictional character ruins men forever!

and i will be one to say i told you so! lol making fun of my shirt and bag. lol

and you have to see the movies!! they may not be exactly the same but its still kind of like sick pleasure in seeing one of ur favorite books brought to life.. and rob pattenson is dreamy! kirsten stewert... a horrible piece to the cast.. but eh you take what you get.

  3. I absolutely LOVE this books, I'm the one who got Jillian hooked. She wasn't sold at first when I was reading them being that it was about vampires, but I told her she had to read them..there was just something about them! You just get lost in their world and it's ridiculous how much a fictional character has ruined men for me for the rest of my life!! If you are a fan of the books, you HAVE to see the movies!! They're not exactly the same and like me you'll probably scrutinize every single detail that left out or changed.. but I've seen so many 'book to movie' films that I can't just skip out on my favorite series of books outside of Harry Potter. I know so many people that talked crap about the series until they picked up the first book and flipped through it in a few days..so you're not alone! it really is a phenomenon..

  4. I just don't think I have time for vampires. I really prefer quality psycho-serial-killer tales. Maybe when I go on vacation.

  5. I always hated reading that is until I read Twilight. When Jillian told me I had to read these books I was like "whatever, I'll try them out." I read the entire saga in about 4 or 5 days. I was up until all hours of the night reading. The first thing I would do in the morning is pick up the book and start reading where I left off. Although I thought the movie was a poor adaptation of the book, it did it's job of seeing the book somewhat played out. The books became almost real. They were all I thought of. I have knots or anticpation in my stomach while reading them and was so dissappointed when I finished Breaking Dawn. I wanted more. So began my vampire/paranormal book obsession. - Stefanie, Jillians friend.

  6. My Cousin first told me that I would enjoy the series but I thought there is no way I'm reading a teenage book and left it at that about 3 weeks later my sister said to me OMG you have to read these books and again I pushed it to the side and said no thanks and then about a month later my husband and I were in a book store and he looked at me and said you know what book I think you will like I think it is called Twlight...lol I couldn't believe it I thought well everyone thinks Im going to like it so I bought it that night.
The next night I bought new Moon.. Yes I finished it by the next night and could not wait..lol... My poor kids had no mom for about a week. yes I read the whole series in a week and I'm hooked. And I have seen the movie and Jillian is right it is just a guilty pleasure in seeing your characters come to life.

  7. As Robert Pattinson said:

“Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as `Claudia`! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.”

    hmmmmmmmmmm.

  8. Love the books...do not like Rob Pattinson or Kristin Stewart for the movies. Saw a new show last week called Vampire Diaries...Those actors should've been cast in the Twilight Saga movies.
